About Aspect Journal
Aspect Journal is an online
publication devoted to grassroots ski writing by talented and
passionate authors. Our content explores the various aspects of
skiing and skiing culture through rich and well-developed
storytelling.
There is a kind of ski writing that true authors love to create
but cannot easily publish in today's market. This kind of writing goes well beyond
commercial magazine content. It delves into the deeper aspects of
skiing culture. It gives words to shared experiences, joys, visions,
humor, ideas, tragedies, anticipations, habits, addictions, and
epiphanies. This kind of writing is not assigned by anyone. It comes
out of the need to express and create. It is a kind of poetry. A
writer writes it because he or she has to. It scratches and claws to
get out because it is rooted in feelings and experiences, a person's
very existence.
Traditional media increasingly glosses over the ski industry—its
personalities, manufacturers, resorts, trends, fashions—to the point
where the experience of skiing is becoming lost. Aspect
Journal goes the opposite way. Our authors celebrate the art of
writing for writing's sake. Aspect Journal attempts to recapture the
grassroots eccentricities of skiing, to artfully verbalize the
complex reasons we give ourselves up to the mountains at every
opportunity.
Aspect Journal's focus will always be on quality ski literature. We exist as a conduit for creative expression that writers and readers from every skiing tribe increasingly long for.
